The European Overtone Choir

The European Overtone Choir was founded at the international choir festival Bohemia Cantat 2006 in Liberec (Czech Republic).

About 60 enthusiastic singers from eight different european nations came together to rehearse and sing under the direction of Jan Stanek (choir conductor, organisator of Bohemia Cantat), Prof. Steffen Schreyer (choir conductor and professor of music), and Wolfgang Saus (overtone instructor, voice coach).

The European Overtone Choir wants to realize the vision of a new kind of choir sound where the established classical and contemporary choir music is combined with the spherical soundscapes of overtone singing. The art of singing two tones with one voice is still relatively unknown and at best associated with faraway cultures such as Tuva and Mongolia.

Our repertoire consists of classical choir pieces as well as new and experimental compositions and improvisations, which allow to hear and experience the unusual sounds of the overtones in a deeply moving way. The little overtone music that is known in the Western world is often limited to a relatively esoteric context. This vocal ensemble wants to bring non-esoteric overtone choir music to a wider audience.

The European Overtone Choir understands its mission to be not just an international choir community, but to also be a harmonizing link between the people and cultures in Europe and beyond.

Contact

If you are interested to sing with us, you are very welcome to contact us. We are looking for experienced choir singers in all vocal ranges that are willing to experiment with their voice. Prior experience with overtone singing would be good, but is not essential, as we teach all of our members in this art.
